California National Guard

Meet Private 1st Class Ada Muniz, this week's #CalGuard Soldier of the Week. The #NationalGuard would like to recognize and highlight PFC Ada Muniz as our #SoldierOfTheWeek.

"Hi, my name is PFC Muniz and I am an 92A: Automated Logistical Specialist. I enlisted into the California National Guard at 17 years old right after I graduated from Weston Ranch High School. I hope to gain experience and live by the army values to one day become a CHP Officer.
Basic Combat Training was 10 very challenging weeks that pushed me both mentally and physically. However, it was an experience that I will never forget. AIT was a an enjoyable experience as I was able to learn the ins and outs of my MOS that was very interesting.
Since I was 10 years old I always wanted to serve our country. I was inspired to join the National Guard by my family and my ambition to be something greater than myself.
The #Guard is a huge responsibility that I intend to commit to and provide nothing but the best quality service that I possibly can.
One line from the Soldier Creed that means the most to me is โ€˜I will never leave a fallen comrade,โ€™ because we are all in this as one team. We do not only fight for ourselves, but for those around us. #OneTeamOneFight
One core army value that means the most to me is #loyalty because loyalty means dedicating yourself to your country and surrounding yourself by those on the same mission as you to be the best #Soldier you could be for your country.โ€

Please take the time to congratulate this #CitizenSoldier on her Gold Phase Graduation
Ceremony, and most importantly her return back to us in our wonderful state of #California.

If youโ€™re looking to help others and think you have what it takes to join our family, message us today. ...

California Highway Patrol

As law enforcement officers, we took an oath to protect and serve the people of California, and retired Sergeant Kevin Briggs is a shining example of taking that oath and putting it to action. For 18 years he patrolled the Golden Gate Bridge and prevented over 200 people from committing suicide. He said it best, โ€œAll it takes is one person to change another personโ€™s life. Listen to understand.โ€

If you or someone you know needs help, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 800-273-8255 (24 hours a day) or www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org.

Muse Storytelling
He was a highway patrol officer. The area he was asked to patrol included the Golden Gate Bridge.

It turns out, the Golden Gate is one of the worldโ€™s leading spots for loss of life to suicide.

But as highway patrol, Kevin received no training on how to handle such complex situations. Imagine countless people leaping off the bridge and being totally powerless to make any difference.

One day, after losing somebody after a long attempt to try and talk them back over the rail, heโ€™d had enough.

This is the story of what Kevin decided to do about that problem. And what he learned about helping those with suicide and depression.
