Introducing Harlow (4363), rescued from the West Valley shelter, a 10 year old dachshund/x. Frankly, we are not sure what her heritage is. Maybe part Chihuahua, or maybe a little Pomeranian mixed in for good measure? Whatever she is she is tiny and adorable. Harlow is very long and very short with a lush blonde coat from head to tail. Her pink nose and baby blues are mesmerizing.

Harlow actually came to us on March 24th. She spent the past month (and $1300) at the vet first getting over Kennel Cough that escalated into pneumonia. We almost lost her. Then when she was well enough, a spay, and a dental that took most of her teeth. It took a long time for her to recover enough to come home today.

The first thing we did was brush out all the mats and tangles in her fur, then trimmed her feet (they had hard mats between her pads - like walking around with a pebbles in your shoe - ouch!), then a nice warm oatmeal bath followed by coconut cream rinse. A blow dry, and voila! She is gorgeous like her namesake, Jean Harlow.

This cutie-patootie will be at the O.C. Pet Expo if you would like to meet her. She is available for adoption. Contact <[email protected]> and complete our online application at <http://scdr.org/adoption-application/>. ...

She’s beautiful!

She is so cute!

Just darling. I have used the Wisdom DNA Panel on my little rescue. It was fun finding out what she was, even though she was 0% doxie, LOL.

Eureka! I got it - She's a dachshund & Tibetan Spaniel. This is a Tibetan Spaniel.

So pretty!

Today was Brownie's lucky day, she just doesn't know it yet. Brownie (4375) was adopted today. Brownie, an 8 year old, standard (26 lbs.) girl came to SCDR in early April after the toddler in her former home succeeded in injuring Brownie's back, not once, but twice, resulting in 2 episodes of steroids, pain meds, and weeks of crate rest.

For her safety the family asked us to find her a home that was better for her. Today, Brownie met her new mom and dad. Linda and Kenny applied for several of our dogs over the past few weeks, but each time they were just a little too late. The dogs were already committed to other families. We notified them when Brownie arrived in rescue, and they jumped at the chance to adopt her.

Brownie was less than her usual friendly self at first. Normally, she is an "alpha" personality, pushing to the front of the line for treats and attention. Today, she was stand-offish and cautious. Who were these people? And why are they here? It took a handful of Charlie Bears (little treats) to win Miss Brownie over. But once she decided she liked Linda and Kenny, she was all kissy-kissy. Apparently, she wanted time to size them up and then decide if they were acceptable to her.

Here is Brownie celebrating her new family. Please join us in wishing Linda and Kenny a long and happy life with Brownie. ...

Today was a big day for Oscar (4365). He was adopted by Athena and her dacshie girl, Penny. Oscar, a 4 year old black and tan, originally came into rescue a couple of months ago from the Visalia shelter, along with another male dachshund. Unfortunately, the boys did not get along, so we decided to place them separately. Oscar showed a preference for females, so when Athena applied to adopt the third dachshund from SCDR, we suggested Oscar.

Oscar was not an easy dog at first. He came from a back yard breeder who left him and his siblings outside 24/7 with little or no human socialization, leash training, or house training. It took weeks of one-on-one training to get Oscar ready for adoption. He is 90% there, and Athena is confident she can get him all the way with some time and dedication. This is not her first dachshund, so we have faith she will be able to help Oscar be the dachshund he was always meant to be.

Here are Athena with Penny (3128) and Oscar (4365). Please join us in wishing her good luck with training Oscar and for a long, happy life together. ...

Here is a good example of standing wave clouds developing across the Tehachapi Mountains this morning. The SW to NE alignment of these cloud waves tell you that gusty NW winds are developing behind an exiting front. There is enough moisture with in a horizontal layer near the ridgetop that allows clouds to develop, then quickly dissipate out on either side of the cloud due to the wave action of the air moving over the mountains. ...

Good afternoon from the Day/Swing Shifts.

Well, the area is still on track for a quick shot of precipitation tonight and Thursday as a weak system moves across the area. At this time, the best chances for measurable precipitation look to be across the Central Coast. Rainfall totals are generally expected to range around 0.10 inches or less with locally higher amounts (up to 0.25") possible across the Central Coast. Snow levels will drop to around 4000 feet, so there could be some light snow accumulations in the local mountains.

As the system moves through, gusty northwesterly winds will develop across the area on Thursday. Wind gusts between 35 and 55 MPH will be possible across the mountains and northerly wind-prone areas.

For Friday through the weekend, high pressure is forecast to build over the West Coast. So, warmer and drier conditions can be expected for the area. ...
