Mom's story about son who died after rationing insulin brings attention to high insulin prices

2018-05-16T22:30:04+0000

'He died because he was rationing insulin since he couldn't afford $1,300 a month for insulin. This is a common place drug that has not changed, but the prices have gone up three times," said Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobucher.

A Mother's Day plea from a Minnesota mom is getting a lot of attention online.

Please welcome SCDR's newest refugee, Peter (4423), an 8 year old, 15 lb. tweenie. Janet Shaffron, SCDR foster/adopter/volunteer, spotted him on the Riverside SPCA lost and found webpage. As no one had come to claim him for over 3 weeks, they released him to her today. Sharon picked him up this afternoon. They had fully vaccinated him, neutered him, microchipped him, and even made sure he had a complete dental, and sent home pain meds and antibiotics! Riverside SPCA rocks!

Janet will foster until a wonderful home can be secured for Peter. Interested parties can email <[email protected]> for more information. An application and home check are required. ...

It was an unexpected pleasure today to do an adoption for Franklin (4399), a 2 year old, gorgeous, standard that needed a new home, because the other resident male dog in the home was aggressive toward him. Franklin did nothing wrong, so this was for his safety. His former owner, Michele, became his foster mom temporarily, which was much appreciated.

Today Franklin (his friends call him Franky) met his new forever family. Kathleen, Michael, and daughter Rylee were delighted to meet Franky. He was friendly, but not overly affectionate. Michael is hoping to have Franky bond with him as this is his first dog of his very own. Franky will choose at some point, we're sure.

Please join us in congratulating Kathleen, Michael and Rylee on the new addition to their family. Franky, you don't know it yet, but you won the lottery! ...

Introducing Coco (4381) and Lola (4382), 10 and 11 years old respectively. These sisters are adorable mini's who are house trained (ring a bell hanging from a door knob to alert you they need to go out ) and crate trained. Not much on barking either. Coco is blind (chocolate/tan), Lola is her "seeing eye dog". Together they are like having one dog with 2 heads. They eat together, sleep together, and Lola watches out for Coco. Read their complete bio on our regular webpage. If you can give these girls a loving home together, contact <[email protected]>. An application and home check are required, unless you are a previous adopter with an application already on file. ...

Rocky (4377) is adopted. Rocky, a 3 year old tweenie, came into rescue a month ago after his previous owner was hospitalized and not expected to recover.

After several false starts, we were able to find just the right home for him. Rocky is an "alpha" male and really didn't want to share his humans with another dog, and definitely not one who was not a dachshund. So with that in mind, we matched Rocky with Sherry.

Rocky greeted his new mom with wagging tail and lots of kisses. Sherry was thrilled that he liked her immediately. Rocky occupied Sherry lap the entire meeting and happily jumped into her car for the ride home (with a brief stop at Petco to pick up some food).

Please join us in wishing Rocky and Sherry a long and happy life together. Congratulations Rocky, you got the home you really wanted. (No other people or other dogs.) ...

Coming very soon to SCDR - Franky (4399), a 2 year old, standard dachshund. Neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped, Franky is ready for a new and exciting home.

Franky is a dachshund from “the old school”. He has an “alpha” personality and only likes the dogs he chooses to like. In this case, he liked the female German Shepherd in his previous home, but not the male or any of the cats he was sharing his home with. After one too many altercations with the other male GSD in the home, the family decided that Franky really needed to find other accommodations where he can be King of the Universe, and perhaps have another female dachshund, no other breeds or cats. We agreed to help Franky find a home that fit his needs and personality.

Check out his extra-long body and classic Dachshund schnoze. But his best feature are his green eyes! Wow!

Interested in adopting Franky? Contact <[email protected]>. ...

He has that look to him . He is gorgeous. I bet he will get the right home.💙

He is adorable! I love “old school” dachsies!

That's my kind of dachshund!

Very handsome fellow!!

I have an Alpha boy,he is almost 5. He rules our street and neighborhood. He puffs out his chest when you leave the house for his walks. He picks his friends and protects us. We love our Porter to the moon and beyond.
