Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said Monday he would “absolutely” consider extending L.A. limits on rent increases to cover newly built apartments.
To extend rent control to newly built apts means there will be no new spots built. The cost of building in LA, with all its earthquake proofing requirements is astronomical. With rent control as a possibility, all building by developers will be elsewhere than LA.
You'd think supply and demand could sort it out, but unfortunately, a world of demand exceeds a city's or even a country's worth of supply.
