Check out these awesome captures of a bobcat eating a DEER!

Bobcats are the smaller of the two wild cats found in Yosemite, but they are quite strong for their size, with powerful muscles and an excellent sense of hearing. Their main prey consists of small mammals like ground squirrels and mice, birds, and insects... But it has been known for bobcats to occasionally take down a deer! Usually, when pursuing deer, they go after fawns or smaller individuals, so it is more likely that the adult deer in these trail cam pictures died from other causes and was found by this bobcat, although research has found bobcats in other parts of the country to be able to take down deer EIGHT TIMES their own size. ...

Several years back, while hiking around Mirror Meadow, my son and I saw a mountain lion only about 25 feet away from where we were standing. Talk about an adrenaline rush! We stood motionless and watched. Within a couple of minutes, the big cat wandered off. Away from us. It was incredibly cool!

Took this in the Valley floor last month. He was stalking a small animal.

Not so awesome when someone calls you at the front desk to ask you to remove one from the balcony

Could a bobcat take down a mature, healthy deer?

Think about that as you're trying to fall asleep in your little backpacking tent! :)

I use to live in Sonora. I was young and did not know better. For about 6 months, I would sneak food out to the "stray kitty" that lived somewhere on the other side of the barn.
My neighbor almost killed me when she realized what was going on. They are really neat animals. Kinda weird now that I look back & remember being friends with one of those.

Same spot that one of the historic things I love about Yellowstone

I saw one of these along the Ozark Trail, beautiful animals!

Well I hope the kitty got it’s fill and no mountain lion or bear comes a long and takes it away

This bobcat better not eat you this summer Luke....

Tanya R. Harrison! It’s like the bobcat we saw hiking down from glacier point!

Well he won't be hungry for awhile.

Creepiest sound I’ve heard in the early morning.

he looks well-fed. so cal bobcats are scrawny.

Nice kitty. I have seen many on my MTB rides in SoCal.

Life in the wild and man does not believe it seems in darwin anymore.

we had bobcats at the Whistler house...didn't eat the cat 'though

Suzie Jones Rod Lamkey
Rod, when we camped at YNP, I remember that night hearing the howl of a wildcat way, way, way in the distance. It was so magical, so haunting, so spiritual!

Wow! I knew mountain lions did that but I didn't know bobcats did!

Dan this is super cool!

What killed the deer?

Amazing cats!

#bobcatstrong

Niiiiiiiiiice kitty.....

Adrian that poor little baby deer we saw last time 😢😭🦌🐆

Photographers often use a long exposure to make moving water appear soft, and to evoke the feeling of motion in their images. Even to the naked eye, though, if you relax your gaze, moving water seems to merge into one fluid moving shape. Upon closer inspection, though, it is revealed to be a ferociously bubbling and tumbling affair, shattering all notions of calm, frothing and throwing around sand and stones.

When you think about it; what does moving water really *look* like? Would you be able to draw a picture of it? Does it have a shape, or a color? ...

Whoever writes these Yosemite updates... it’s pure poetry. Thank you!

Painting the softness from the long exposure would seem easier than the bubbly, heavily textured water flow with heavy details.

Appearance of water in visual media is *almost as interesting as the flow of the water itself.

One of the best places to take pictures!!!!

What an intriguing question ... here's my take. Moving water evokes sound and also emotional feelings, so when one *looks* at 'moving water' a number of their senses are actively engaged in the experience.

Richard Jeorge Tripps let's try painting ittttt

When I look at water it puts me in a pleasant trance. Listening to water does the same and I am at peace.

my thoughts are fluid on that question :-)

💛

I got this shot last weekend just as the skyline was broken by the sunrise. It was worth waiting in the freezing cold and the drive through the night to witness it.

beautiful

This is my skyline photo 😎

Love shooting images of the valley during a full moon

Seeing this picture of 'Yosemite's Skyline' brings back all of the memorable nights with my family sitting in the middle of the meadow out on the boardwalk near Curry Village. What a beautiful sight, surrounded by dark shadows of the huge granite walls, and the bright starry night up above us. 😍

Early morning in July '17.

Love yosemite

It evokes friendship and tranquility. My Yosemite skyline photo from a couple of years ago

There is also peace in darkness

Yosemite's skyline makes me wonder at the beauty of the earth - and the strong impression that El Capitan gives makes me feel that same strength in my own being and in my own life. Can't wait to visit and see this for myself one day!

Just before sunset last night, with the sun still shining on Half Dome

Memories, Wonderful Memories!❤️

Love it

Heading out there this morning!

Perfect description.

Such beautiful words for a beautiful place.

Nice job

Nostalgia.

Tranquility 💜

Just wow. Amezin.

Focus.

Ears erect, muscles still, the coyote waits, one paw raised, in the brisk morning air. She has heard something — the sound of a blade of grass rubbing against another — and is completely invested in what little morsel of an animal may have produced it.

She takes a cautious step forwards, ears swiveling like satellite receivers, and then stops again. She tenses her body for a moment. The air is quiet.

With one swift motion, she expels all of the energy from her hind legs and vaults herself silently into the air, making a graceful arc before striking the ground firmly with both front paws and burying her nose in the grass...!

No vole yet. Her stomach growls.
She continues her search. ...

Hi! I'm from Argentina. I need información about the routes to Yosemite Valley. Is posible go from San Francisco? What is the route more accessible? I hope your answer.

Ya, beautiful till it carts off with your “fluffy” cat or dog.

My German Shepherd does the same thing but cocks her head and listens before digging.

Whomever is managing the facebook does an amazing job. I lived in El Portal and Crane Flat about 15 years ago. I love Yosemite! I love that I get to stay connected through this venue. Thank you for the amazing photos and posts.

Reading the caption I can hear it being narrated by the legendary Sir David Attenborough in my head! What an excellent capture too!

Reminds me of what my dog does sometimes

We observed a pair of coyotes up in Tuolumne Meadows last year, hunting a small ground animal. They were the largest coyotes I have ever seen. Some other hikers even thought they were wolves.I know there are no wolves in Yosemite. These were very healthy specimens with beautiful thick coats. They worked as a team, and very skillfully got their prey and trotted off together to enjoy their dinner.

I love this park's FB posts! Kudos to whomever is writing them, they really convey the magic of nature!

Who writes this stuff? Good job, love it! Thank you

I remember camping at the base of Clouds Rest and hearing the packs of coyote howling together as tha sun was setting. Such an awesome experience!

Great Capture With An Awesome Narrated Theme💚

My favorite of all animals! So beautiful, sly and adaptable. When they pass by my desert dining table window at breakfast, I say, "Hello, my friend!"

My yellow lab/shepherd mix, Maggie would do this exact dance with her food, every day. I wish I had this on video as I haven't seen this before or since with any dog. She was 50 lbs and a little unusual looking. I always wondered if there was a little coyote, she had a long narrow snout, and a terrific prey instinct. She was a love to those of us on 2 feet, but not very tolerant of 4 legged creatures. She tried to bite a Buffalo in the nose once, under a fence rail. Luckily she was leashed! I miss her very much.

They sure are fun to watch! And so much prettier fur coats and not scrawny as in coyotes I've observed elsewhere. Thanks coyotes, bobcats, birds of prey & other critters for lowering abundant rodent population!

Amazing picture! The coyotes in Yosemite are beautiful. I live in the desert. Big difference

So lucky to see one when my family and I visited Yosemite NP. Was a very special moment. The coyote was running down the middle of the road. Slowed the car down and pulled over and it ran straight past close to the door and eyeballed us as it passed. Will never forget it. Love Yosemite.

That is a well fed coyote. Now is it pronounced kyot (with a long o) or kyotee? I won't go into Yosemite.

She should come to my house, I've got plenty of voles to hunt

I have a ton of voles here in Virginia if she would like to take a small vacation

She needs a flood in the valley to help.

We all do that. Sort of. Sometimes the growling comes from a speaker in a box

I am going to share your magnificent photo!

Kelsey also footage of Timon playing with his squeaky toys
